How To Choose Your Menstrual Cup?

In this article, I give you 3 steps to guide you and help you choose calmly :

Already, keep in mind that what can go to your girlfriend Clotilde may not be the best suited to your body type. And that’s normal, we are all different!

Step 1- 2 questions to ask yourself to choose well

Already, in my opinion, the 2 most important questions to ask are the following:

  • Question # 1: Do I have an abundant menstrual flow?
  • Question 2: Did I deliver vaginally?

For me, answering his questions will allow you to generally choose the necessary cup model.

For information, most cup brands – such as DivaCup, Ladycup, Mooncup for example …. – offer 2 sizes:

  • small size for girls and women under 30 and for nulliparas (or those who delivered by cesarean section)
  • large size for those over 30 years old and/or who have an abundant flow and/or have already delivered vaginally.

And for all young girls, there are also models, see this article dedicated to virgin girls who want to take the cup (or have already put).

In the vast majority of cases, this information will be enough to help you choose your cup.

meluna cup

At Menses Cup, on the other hand, they offer a rather impressive range of variants (see here the test bench on the Menses Cup).

You will be able to choose

  • 4 cup sizes
  • 3 cutting flexibilities (especially the stiffer model for sporty women)
  • 4 forms of stems: with rounded ends, in the stem, without end …
  • and some fun colors …

In short, this avalanche of possibilities, instead of helping you to choose well, seems to paralyze more than one.

Do not panic!

All these customizations are gadgets most of the time: the important thing is especially the first 2 questions asked about your flow, your age and/or the fact that you had children.

Point bar.

If after you want to refine a little, free to test different shapes, different colors, what do I know?

Step 2- Larger holes for my cup

Some girls may have fairly thick flows, which may have the unpleasant effect of coming more or less obstruct the holes of the cup supposed to evacuate the overflow.

In these cases, the leaks are often at the rendezvous, while the cup is not even filled since the overpressure of air causes the blood to escape.

Personally, I have always solved the problem if necessary by enlarging myself the holes with scissors (or with a cut, a heated pin … let the MacGyver express that is in you on this one).

Nevertheless, some cups may have slightly larger holes.

Here is the information that I collected after my tests, but also on the EasyCup forum, not having experienced them all myself:

1- Cups with big holes

  • The So’Cup: 4 very very big holes.
  • Naturcup: 4 holes big enough.
  • The Louloucup: 4 holes big enough too
  • The MÏU Cup: 2 holes of an oblong shape, very wide.
  • The Eve cup: 8 holes big enough.
  • Iriscup and Ladycup: the largest holes found (apart from the So’Cup). But they reduce the capacity of the cup: to favor for not too abundant flows.
  • Fleurcup, Si-Bell, Cup’Ax and RubyCup, MyOwnCup, MiaCup, and LuvUrBody: big holes, easy to clean.
  • The AmyCup (no propensity to clog)

2- Cups without holes

And so no problem of holes that clogLilycup and FemmyCycle.

3- Small holes that close easily

  • Mooncup UK,
  • Lamazuna,
  • Organi Cup,
  • Gaia Cup,
  • Eco-Cup,
  • Fem Cup,
  • Divacup

4- Difficult hole cleaning

The Keeper (because of the opaque brown color).

5- Not necessarily big but do not get clogged

No problems reported with the Yuuki but it has small holes, ditto for the Claricup, the cup in my panties, the Luneale*, Natu (or LibertyCup), SheCup and LunaCup maximum.

Finally, are of average size but have no propensity to clog: LilaCup and Tulip (or Tioulpan)

Note: The Luneale has no rod, but a Moonpad to avoid any discomfort.

3- Which cup brand will suit me best? A proven forum at Easy up

The big question everyone asks: which brand will suit me best?

In fact, I repeat, what will suit one may not be appropriate at all to the other …

So, to conclude, here is a form on the forum Easy cup that can suggest different brands, based on your answers to their series of 5 questions (note however that the answers are provided for information only).

Look at the box below, answer the questions and click on the button “Which menstrual cup would suit me best”. You will then have a series of marks that correspond to the answers provided.

Note: Initially, manufacturers of menstrual cups recommended to wear this hygienic protection for 12 hours in a row. But following the various controversies around the SCT and the composition of stamps, manufacturers are – for some – income over this period and recommend a maximum wearing time of 8 to 10h.
